Regina Mills Appreciation Week: Day Two

∟Favorite Scene - The Evil Queen invites Hansel and Gretel to stay.

This scene was something special to me, because it was the first time we see the Evil Queen open up and make herself vulnerable. By inviting these kids to stay with her, she opens herself up to rejection. It also gives us an insight to what she considers love. She promises these children a place to stay and all the material possessions they could desire, not stopping to think about the familial love they’d be missing by abandoning their roots. When Hansel and Gretel choose their humble home over the lavish life in castle, Regina seems confused, and then hurt. It’s this reaction that hints to the viewer that she didn’t have that unconditional parental love growing up, and hints to her less than loving upbringing, even before the events of The Stable Boy unfold.
